Thai Traditional Massage
Thai Traditional Massage
Traditional Thai massage, a unique healing art of Thai medicine, has existed here for thousands of years. In this massage, not only the receiver but also the giver has an amazing experience. Energy blockages of both participants are released, deep healing occurs in the present moment of meditation.
Thai massage uses elements of acupressure, yoga, physiotherapy, meditation, energy healing, chiropractic and Ayurveda. Traditional Thai massage is a holistic therapy where a person is treated as a whole mental, emotional, physical and spiritual body. These individual aspects can be influenced by massage.
The original purpose of Thai massage is to restore and balance the energy system in the body. Energy lines of the system are not visible to many people, but they can be felt. They are part of many Eastern traditions. In the West, they are known in acupuncture as meridians. In Thai massage, therapists work on ten known meridians.
The vital life force is called Prana in Sanskrit, Chi in Chinese medicine, and Ki in Japanese tradition. This life force flows along the energy lines and is responsible for a healthy body. Due to various emotional or physical traumas, this energy can be blocked. That may cause physical and mental illness. With the help of various techniques, Thai massage can release these blocks and bring the body back into balance.
Thai massage has always been closely linked to Buddhist meditation practice. Properly practiced massage is intuitive, focused on the patient’s needs, where the therapist’s energy comes from the heart and is guided by loving kindness (Metta).

Thai massage is performed on a soft mat on the floor in comfortable and loose clothing. Normally, the massage should last one and a half to two hours, but it can be performed even longer according to the needs of the client. The practicing masseur uses thumbs, elbows, knees and soles of the feet in combination with acupressure, light rocking, stretching yogic exercises and spinal mobilization. Thai massage then looks like a dance between the masseur and the massaged, when the masseur uses his/her own body weight in a meditative rhythm. A deep sense of calm is often felt during and after therapy.
